Outside the Oranges Are Blooming

Somewhere in the mountains in southern Europe, a man is mired in solitude.

It’s not in the local townsfolk but in the picturesque forests and sublime mountain peaks that the subject of Nevena Desivojević’s evocative debut, which premiered at DOK Leipzig 2019, finds companionship. Filled with painterly compositions and shots that linger on faces, movements, moments – all made dreamlike by an ambient, almost melancholic soundscape – Outside the Oranges Are Blooming is an arresting meditation on existence and finding one’s place in the world.
