Viewer Advice: Contains stroboscopic imagery

Super-8 images of a little white dog on a bleak northern beach are resurrected through the magic of film.

Commissioned by the BFI for the Film on Film Festival in 2023, Mark Jenkin’s playful short began as a latent image in a two-decade-old super-8 cartridge, in which the titular pet scampers along a grim, windswept shoreline. A moving meditation on the power of analog filmmaking, as light, chemicals and sprockets conspire to bring life to a long-gone companion.
