A to A
Kreis Wr.Neustadt
A road movie that goes absolutely nowhere – to hypnotic, hilarious effect.
Demonstrating the playful qualities that once saw him dubbed the enfant terrible of experimental film, Johann Lurf filmed this absurdist 2011 short from a sputtering Vespa as it circled – and circled and circled and circled – 100 different roundabouts in his homeland, Austria. Full of mediocre landscapes, shoddy architecture and novelty sculpture, it’s an endearing homage to human achievement at its least wondrous. Winner of a short film award at the 2011 Viennale.
