A self-assigned summer project leads to tough lessons in life, love and friendship for a precocious pair of boarding school BFFs.
Best friends Minna and Flic are on a mission to graduate from their English boarding school and get into Oxbridge. Keenly aware that they’ll need to go the extra mile to increase their chances of selection, the girls set themselves an extracurricular assignment to become more “worldly”. Their goal: to fall in love with the first person they see … and that just happens to be their totally oblivious geography teacher, Miss Delavigne (Alice Englert, Bad Behaviour, MIFF 2023).
With a punchy script penned by Miriam Battye and adapted from a short story by Rose Tremain, Extra Geography is a funny, bittersweet ode to teenage-girl friendship in the lineage of films like Ghost World, Clueless and Booksmart. BAFTA-winning TV director Molly Manners’s debut feature is led by remarkable performances from newcomers Galaxie Clear and Marni Duggan as Minna and Flic, whose convincingly cosy friendship is tested by the rocky terrain of adolescence, full of confusing hormones, co-dependency and competitiveness.
