H.E.R., Liza Soberano, Manny Jacinto and Lea Salonga lend their voices to this fantastical animated tale of friendship, fearlessness and Filipino culture.

Best friends Jo and Raissa have just graduated from high school. They vow to remain close forever, even though Raissa’s about to move to the US for university. On their last night together, the girls accidentally open a portal to Nakali, a mysterious island populated by aswangs. The longer you stay in Nakali, the more your memories fade – so they must figure out how to get back home, fast, and also avoid the clutches of the Dreaded Manananggal.

From DreamWorks, the studio behind Shrek and How to Train Your Dragon, comes this immersive, exciting adventure in which two teenagers learn about bravery and unbreakable bonds. Steeped in Philippine mythology and rooted in the real-world friendship between directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the film boasts a voice cast of Filipino A-listers – including Grammy winner H.E.R.; actors Liza Soberano (Lisa Frankenstein), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place) and Dolly de Leon (Triangle of Sadness, MIFF 2022); Broadway icon Lea Salonga; and comedian Jo Koy – as well as fellow stars Dave Franco, Jenny Slate and Ronny Chieng. Capped off with resplendent anime-inspired visuals and folk-inspired music, Forgotten Island reminds us that growing up doesn’t have to mean growing apart.
