This Palme d’Or–awarded portrait of a Mexican boy boxer quietly referees a contest between dreams and expectations.

In the tough neighbourhood of Tepito, becoming a boxing champion is the great Mexican dream. But when little Damián is in the ring, cheered on by the family and coaches who’ve poured their ambition into him, his hunger to win battles a yearning for childhood. Modest and humane, Cannes 2026’s Short Film Palme d’Or winner trusts in your empathy to intuit quieter kinds of violence.
