Queer punk provocateur Gregg Araki (Mysterious Skin, MIFF 2005) titillated Sundance 2026 with his first big-screen outing since 2014: a delirious dom-com that’s a raunchy blast for everyone, teasing Gen Z with the fun they’re missing while also satirising the Teen Apocalypse Trilogy auteur’s own permissive cultural sphere. Delightful as the down-for-anything Elliot, Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza) sparks with Olivia Wilde (Don’t Worry Darling; Drinking Buddies, MIFF 2013), whose Erika is a hilariously unhinged mix of Norma Desmond, Miranda Priestly and Maude Lebowski. Joining this game cast are Daveed Diggs, Margaret Cho, Johnny Knoxville, Chase Sui Wonders and Charli xcx (Erupcja, MIFF 2026), playing against type as Elliot’s uptight med student girlfriend.
