A reimagined spin on a canonical tale that flips Western narratives about North Africa.

Adapting a parable from Giovanni Boccaccio’s The Decameron, Franco-Tunisian visual artist Fredj Moussa assembles striking images of veiled faces, secondhand fabrics and majestic animals that humorously evoke Western ideas about the former Barbary Coast. A playful, politically charged work of revisionist myth-making, filled with vibrant colours and costumes.
