In the Listening Room of ACMI’s exhibition Reverb, Score Kissa presents the haunting soundtrack to Mārama in a special event introduced by the composers.
Taratoa Stappard’s striking debut feature Mārama is a chilling ghost story reckoning with the violence of British colonialism, redeploying the tropes of classic Victorian Gothic horror through a uniquely Māori lens. In this collaboration between MIFF, ACMI, APRA AMCOS and the Birrarangga Film Festival, Score Kissa presents the evocative score for Stappard’s film. Composers Karl Sölve Steven and Rob Thorne will guide audiences through the work in an intimate listening session, offering insight into their creative process and the sonic world behind the film. A limited-edition vinyl release of the score will also be available.
Score Kissa is an exclusive listening event series hosted by APRA AMCOS that gives Australian and New Zealand screen composers a platform to showcase their unreleased film, TV and gaming scores on high-fidelity audiophile sound systems. Inspired by Japan's jazz café tradition, these intimate sessions let creators play their soundtracks in a deeply immersive environment.
