Where the grass don’t grow

Strap in for a meditative ride through Australia’s subculture of salt lake speed racing, as daredevil drivers pierce the vast emptiness.
Drivers travel thousands of kilometres to Lake Gairdner in outback South Australia to break Australia’s land speed record on kilometres of hard-packed salt. Captured immaculately on 16mm film with huge telephoto lenses, self-built jet-propelled cars hurtle through soupy mirages of blistering heat to a hypnotic soundtrack. A strangely ethereal silence radiates as everything but momentum falls away.
