The Edge is a modern indoor amphitheatre located in the south-eastern corner of Fed Square. Enter through The Atrium on Flinders Street or via Fed Square.

Food and Beverage 

There are multiple food and beverage options around The Edge. Within The Atrium, there are two options: the NGV Australia Cafe, which serves drinks and limited food options; and Beer DeLuxe, which has a full-service bar and kitchen. 

Accessibility

There are two entrances into The Edge: one through the Atrium on Flinders Street, and the other through Fed Square.

The Atrium entrance:

  • For step-free/wheelchair accessible entry into The Edge, enter through the Atrium on Flinders Street.
  • There is a slightly inclined ramp on the left side of the venue running up towards the entry into The Edge.
  • Once you have reached the internal entry, there is a small lip at the base of a single door into The Edge.

Fed Square entrance:

  • Entry through Fed Square is not step-free/wheelchair accessible.
  • Enter Fed Square from Swanston Street and head across the open cobblestoned plaza towards The Atrium.
  • At the entrance to The Atrium, there is an automatic glass door that leads to a small foyer space, then a large staircase down to the entry of The Edge.

Once inside The Edge, there is a large foyer space.

On the left side of The Edge, there is a pathway to an elevator that allows step-free/wheelchair access to the lower stage area and seating.

Entry into The Edge is through the back of the venue.

There is step-free seating in the front rows of The Edge and 12 wheelchair spaces.

Seats at The Edge are wooden with metal edging.

Hearing Loop: The Edge is equipped with a Hearing Loop throughout the venue. The user is required to turn their hearing aid to ‘T’ mode.

The Atrium has a soundproof prayer room with lowered lighting and seats. This is located in the same corridor as the bathrooms, outside The Edge. Fed Square security can grant access to this space on request.

Bathrooms, including accessible bathrooms, are located down a corridor on the right side of the venue when entering through the Atrium from Flinders Street.

Designated on-street Accessible Parking Bays are available at:

  • Flinders Street, between Elizabeth and Swanston Streets
  • Flinders Lane, between Elizabeth and Swanston Streets
  • Little Collins Street, between Russell and Elizabeth Streets
  • Russell Street, between Collins Street and Flinders Lane

For drop off and pick-up, we recommend Russell Street adjacent to Culture Kings (approx. 100m) or on the Russell Street extension near Federation Square (approx. 300m)

IMAX Melbourne is a custom-built 3D theatre and home to the largest cinema screen in the Southern Hemisphere. It is attached to Melbourne Museum.

Box Office 

There is no MIFF Box Office at IMAX Melbourne in 2026. To buy tickets before the session, please book online or by calling the Box Office on 03 8660 4888.

Food and Beverage 

There is a bar/candy bar on the foyer level and, for busy sessions, on the cinema level (lower level). There is step-free/wheelchair access to the foyer-level candy bar via the lift from the Museum plaza. There is no step-free access to the lower-level candy bar. The cinema is licensed.

An essential part of the Lygon Street scene and Carlton’s cultural fabric, Cinema Nova was established in August 1992.

The MIFF Box Office is located in the foyer of Cinema Nova on the right.

Cinema Nova’s Candy Bar is directly ahead of the main escalators from Lygon Street. To the left of the candy bar there is a full-service bar. The Nova Bar is not wheelchair-accessible, as it is five steps down from the Candy Bar level, but all offerings from the Nova Bar can be requested at the Candy Bar.

This is a fully licensed venue.
