“Reykjavik has never been shown like this before.” - Variety Shot in stylish black and white, Children is a compelling and, at times, darkly humorous look at four intertwined lives in the suburbs of Reykjavik - a single mother and her lonely son; the son's only friend, a 40 year-old schizophrenic; and the boy's father who is a suspicious thug returning for a fresh start. Their paths collide in unexpected and violent ways, an expression of the complex resonances of past actions. Filmmaker Ragnar Bragason collaborated with Icelandic theatre company Vesturport to create this realistic social drama through heavy character development and improvisation. Offering stunning performances from its cast, Children is the first of twin features by Bragason and Vesturport looking at the roles of children and parents (the second part is Parents).
