"Today 35,000 Jews live in the German Bundes-republik. They live amongst us and with us. But there is still no unbiased human and civic relationship towards each other. One has not yet found the right way after twenty years of Auschwitz and Theresienstadt. This documentary film tries to show today's 'Complexes of the Past' of the Germans so that these should be overcome. Smouldering anti-Semitism as well as exalted pro-Semitism render the way more difficult to a genuine community. Our Jewish fellow-citizens do not want to be 'lepers' nor 'something special' - they want to live amongst us as a people amongst people."
Foreword to the film.

The film is a frank and revealing analysis of the situation, presenting a challenging approach to a highly controversial subject.
