The pretty wife of a surly young farmer who is dedicated to the evils of being a small-time capitalist, travels to the city on a business trip for her husband and plans to stay overnight with her sister. The taxi driver who takes her to her sister's flat befriends her. A sympathy springs up between them and he makes a date with her for the evening. . . .

The director of this Muscovite Brief Encounter is a woman: her sensitive handling and tactful insight into all parts of the situation result in a subdued film with a welcome absence of politics and an impressive timbre of objective understatement. The taxi driver is played by Oleg Efremov, who was the dumb detective in Watch Your Car.
