Lasse is an out-of-work journalist in his late twenties. He is easy-going but lacking in any firm convictions; he tends to worry about the state of his health. Work is difficult to get and Lasse delivers newspapers in central Stockholm to support himself. He and his friend Bosse enjoy dancing at discotheques, drinking and pursuing girls. One morning on his round he meets Lena and begins an affair with her. She has a pleasant, modern apartment, a steady job and sings in the church choir. But as he becomes involved with her, he begins to fear that he is settling into a middle-class and boring way of life.

'Hallstrom is reminiscent of one of his idols, the Czech Milos Forman, with ironic touches skimming across deep waters.'
