The Book of Midnight

Scherazade, the heroine of A Thousand and One Nights has much in common with the heroine of this delightful short film. Each take on the treacherous responsibility of delivering stories nocturnally. Contraband literature passed onto other resistance fighters in occupied France is the protagonist's dangerous task in The Book of Midnight. Her son keeps a lamplit vigil for her by reading of Scherazade in the belief that the two women's paths are parallel. A succinct and beautiful allegory about the power of words.
