Rosetta Stone, a rogue geneticist operating secretly out of her home, has created three clones of herself. With limitations on their lifespan, the strangely colour-coded trio require a very particular sustenance in order to keep their DNA intact. Only one of them, Ruby, can covertly venture into the outside world to initiate a succession of charged sexual liaisons and obtain the nutrient. Unfortunately Ruby's one night stands have a Sexually Transmitted Data side-effect and her conquests begin exhibiting strange symptoms from 'hard'-drive crashing impotence to barcode shaped rashes on their forehead!
Selected at the Toronto and Berlin Film Festivals, Lynn Hershman Leeson's wickedly funny, razor sharp satire stars Tilda Swinton (Adaptation) in no less than four roles (Dr Stone and all her clones)! The director experiments with everything from contemporary sexual mores to the future of genetic engineering and the ethical storm that rages around it. Hershman Leeson's choice of cast is as idiosyncratic as Teknolust's striking art direction: Jeremy Davies (Saving Private Ryan, Solaris) as a terminally eccentric copy-shop clerk besotted by Dr Stone; James Urbaniak (Henry Fool, MIFF 1998) as a frustrated Federal Immune Agent and Karen Black camping it up a storm as fringe feminist conspiracy theorist, Dirty Dick.
