The final installment of Peggy Ahwesh's loose trilogy on sexuality and violence (The Deadman [1990], The Colour of Love [1994]). Pilfering plot elements from Mario Bava's What! (1963), and appropriating text from Kathy Acker, Steven Shaviro and the Marquis de Sade, Ahwesh creates an hallucinatory psychological landscape, exquisitely split between the inferiority of Pixelvision and sensually filmed exteriors. The performance by Anne Kugler as the woman who has perhaps murdered her lover is superbly attuned to the super-textuality of this black horror.
