“Reinvents the concert film like no other before it.” - Film Threat
Three days before the Beastie Boys' sold-out 2004 Madison Square Garden show, Adam Yauch made an impulsive creative decision to give 50 ticket-holders a digital video camera and one instruction: shoot whatever you want at the gig. The result is Beastie Boys in Awesome I Fuckin' Shot That!, an intoxicating, immediate record of the event and the closest thing to the real deal without actually being there.
With hundreds of hours of anarchic footage to edit, Yauch (under his Nathanial Hörnblowér alias) painstakingly pieced together a remarkable fan-POV narrative of the entire show: from Ben Stiller singing along in the crowd to mid-concert beer runs, loo trips and an attempt to sneak backstage. He gives a professional audio sheen to an otherwise rowdy lo-fi film, and tricks it up with a typically Beastie collage of post-production effects and animations, but at its heart it's a unique document of a transcendent fan experience.
