"A series of provocative and often heartbreaking conversations between the past and the present, Irene Lusztig’s Yours in Sisterhood is a collective portrait of feminism, and a beautiful paean to the lost art of letter writing." – CineVue

Ms. magazine was the first mainstream feminist magazine in the US, founded by Gloria Steinem and Letty Cottin Pogrebin at the height of the movement’s second wave. Following a deep dive into the magazine’s archive of thousands of unpublished letters to the editor, filmmaker Irene Lusztig embarked on a two-year journey around America inviting strangers to read and respond to letters on camera. The result is Yours in Sisterhood – an enlightening, poignant dialogue between feminism’s past, present and future.

Great care has been taken to match letters with readers who, forty years later, share much in common with the original writers. Many of the letters in the archive came from marginalised voices who felt excluded from the movement at the time, and the documentary is rich with these diverse perspectives. Rigorous and relatable, Yours in Sisterhood demonstrates how much has changed and how much work is still to be done.

"A lot has changed since Ms. magazine launched in 1971 – and a lot hasn’t." – Women and Hollywood
