A poetic and powerful drama about a Syrian teenager who returns from a long day in the field to discover she’s about to be sold into marriage.

Told entirely through gesture, sound and landscape, Rakan Mayasi’s evocative, dialogue-free short film puts forth a dark sociopolitical critique of the patriarchy, as seen through the eyes of 14-year-old Boushra, a Syrian girl working on a potato-picking plantation whose childhood is about to come to a harrowing end. Trumpets in the Sky is pointed and powerful, but also tinged with hope.
