Described as "the ultimate male bonding film" and "an understated example of a good modern gothic narrative", Noir Et Blanc marks Claire Devers' remarkable directorial debut. The story deals with Antoine, an accountant and a good husband who finds a job in a sports club and discovers the pleasures of massages administered by Dominique: the pleasure of his black hands on his white skin. The film describes the relationship between the two men and contrasts Antoine's apparently superficial life with the increasingly masochistic desires he imposes upon Dominique. Both men come to a tragic end.
Claire Devers was born in 1955 and studied philosophy at Vincennes and the Sorbonne, Paris, and after graduating worked as a journalist and photographer. Before Noir Et Blanc she made several shorts while attending IDHEC film school and working as an assistant director. In 1986 Devers worked as assistant director on Olivier Assayas' Desordre. Noir Et Blanc won the Camera D'Or at Cannes last year for the best first feature.
