A tense triple murder tale straight from the Swedish newspaper headlines.

Renowned Swedish director Jan Troell (Oscar-nominated for The Emigrants) examines the dark dynamic between a couple of killers in the psychological drama of Il Capitano.

Reminiscent of Bonnie and Clyde, Badlands and In Cold Blood, the film probes the imbalance of power between anti-hero Jari (Antti Reini, The Man Without A Past) and his girlfriend Minna (Maria Heiskanen, Lights in the Dusk, MIFF 06).

Based on the brutal true crime that shocked Sweden in 1988, the film courted considerable controversy given its release a mere three years after the events depicted. However, its evocative imagery and thoughtful treatment of such a sordid topic still managed to strike a cinematic chord, with Troell taking home the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 1992 Berlin Film Festival.
