Crackpot. Conspiracy theorist. Genius.

Investigative journalist and former policeman Michael Ruppert has been called many things - from ‘conspiracy theorist' to ‘batshit insane' - but there's no denying that his predictions of the imminent advent of peak oil, and the chaos that will follow in its wake, carry a chilling conviction.

Filmmaker Chris Smith (American Movie; The Yes Men, MIFF 2004) returns with a striking, Errol Morris-style piece of portraiture that gives Ruppert full reign to outline his terrifying doomsday prophecies - which are genuinely compelling in their implacable logic - all the while building up an image of an outsider on the edge of a collapse of his own.

Whether Ruppert's theses amount to conspiracy theories or prescient warnings, Collapse - described by Variety as ‘an intellectual horror movie' - makes for riveting viewing.
