Inspire9, General Assembly and Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) invite you to The Comedy Theatre to celebrate one of Australia’s largest learning events in history.
Presented as part of MIFF, Tech in the Cinema seeks to inspire, educate and enlighten people on what the future of work looks like, how Melbourne and Australia continue to build as leading innovation destinations in the world, and the types of digital skill-sets people should acquire.
We’ll be presenting an afternoon full of keynote presentations, tech demonstrations and discussions from progressive leaders in the tech, startup, creative and innovation space in Australia and beyond.
Regardless of your educational or career journey over the years, this is an inclusive and entertaining event designed to highlight the amazing pursuits of people and to celebrate diversity and progress in tech!
Annie Goldson – film director
Annie Goldson is a documentary filmmaker and an academic, who has been producing and directing feature and broadcast documentaries for over 20 years. Her films, which often explore political and social issues through personal stories, have won over 60 international and domestic awards at film festivals. Her latest film, Kim Dotcom: Caught in the Web, screens at MIFF this year.
Kasun Maldeni – co-instructor, General Assembly
Kasun Maldeni is a full-stack web developer with industry experience in ASP.NET and Ruby on Rails, ranging from start-up companies to working at a large software firm developing, maintaining systems and liaising with clients. He co-founded a company aimed to provide hostel and inventory management services over the cloud as a SaaS solution. Kasun has experience in training junior developers in the workforce.
Anna Reeves – CEO, That Startup Show
Anna is a creative entrepreneur, producer and writer with a passion for culture change storytelling. Anna created, wrote and produced That StartUp Show, a web-series focused on start up culture released on Virgin worldwide with a global viewership of over one million. She is currently working on The Stand In My Shoes Project, a VR documentary film and education lab exploring the evolution of empathy.
Georgia Beattie – CEO, Startup Victoria
Georgia began her career studying entrepreneurship at RMIT and Babson College, Boston. She was listed as Top 50 Entrepreneurs to watch in 2015, and in 2016, she took on the CEO role at Startup Victoria August 2016. Startup Victoria is the go-to independent startup body for Victoria that focuses on creating more founders and better founders. The main initiatives the company runs are a monthly Pitch Night, Australia’s first startup platform which offers a single location for events, jobs and mentors, and Victorias first startup ecosystem datamap.
Jamie Skella – Futurist
Entrepreneur and foresight strategist, Jamie Skella is involved in the advisory and design of businesses across AI, blockchain, esports, and even future food. Formerly Head of UX at the AFL, Jamie now sits on the board of MiVote, and is in the process of crafting a small number of digital products himself.
Michelle Mannering – Hackathon Queen
Michelle is known as the 'Hackathon Queen' within Melbourne's startup and tech ecosystem, and for good reason. Avid attendee of hackathons all around town, as well as mentor and tech advisor, Michelle is a frequent collaborator with many around town, including LAB-14 at The University of Melbourne, Melbourne Accelerator Program (MAP), Future Assembly, Pause Fest and much more.
