Three devoted individuals in Tanzania reintroduce a classic piece of the country’s film history to an audience.

A moving testament to the screen’s cultural value for the people, Apostles of Cinema is a lively, fast-paced journey through the labyrinth of Tanzania’s informal libraries, studios, cinemas and pirate-video culture. It follows Frank, a stall owner, DJ Black, who remixes and commentates on films, and Rehema, a cinema worker, as they return Maangamizi: The Ancient One to an audience of working-class cinephiles.
