A deeply moving story of ordinary grief experienced in extraordinary circumstances.

A recently bereaved Indian widow is starting a new life in New Zealand. But first, she must try to complete Pind Daan, a Hindi last-rites ritual to bring peace to the departed soul, from hotel quarantine – and in doing so, confront the depths of her mourning.

Following director Pulkit Arora’s 2021 debut short Milk Toffee, which premiered at Tribeca, his latest effort finds moments of gentle humour in dark days as the woman seeks spiritual guidance on YouTube and improvises offerings from the designated quarantine meals, minibar items and hotel detritus. Anu is a touching portrayal of loneliness, isolation and letting go.
