he Way I Spent the End of the World won the Prix d'Interpretation (acting award) in Un Certain Regard (Dorotheea Petre).
Bucharest 1989; the last year of Stalinist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu's reign and the backdrop for Catalin Mitulescu's debut feature, The Way I Spent the End of the World.
Attractive 17-year-old Eva (Dorotheea Petre) lives at her parent's home with her little brother and is coming to terms with adulthood and falling in love for the first time. Eva blends the joys and confusions of growing up with the sadness and restriction of living in a country under brutal dictatorship.
The Way I Spent the End of the World is a tragi-comedy exploring the feelings of everyday people in a time of turmoil. As Mitulescu explains, “It expresses all the emotion of those bleak days in Romania and gives an idea of what we retain in ourselves, my generation and myself, in this new world which we have entered.”
