Winner of Best Screenplay at San Sebastian Film Festival, the debut feature from female director Fanta Régina Nacro is a tale about the deep scars left by civil war. After a decade of bloody ethnic conflict in a nameless African country, the governing Nayak and rebel Bonandé tribes have come to an uneasy peace. To mark the occasion, an evening of celebration is arranged but, with the blood spilt in the war still fresh in the minds of all present, mutual distrust and fear threatens to tear the fragile peace apart. A non-professional cast provide a compelling performance of a story with a distinctly Shakespearian tone, in what is a powerful and unsettling look at the legacy of war. Contains scenes that may offend
