Headbangers, filmmakers and anthropologists Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen once again hit the road to discover the impact heavy metal music has had on cultures outside Europe and the US. Travelling to South America, Asia and the Middle East, Dunn and McFadyen unearth the local underground metal scenes, discovering music that, rather than being copied from the West, represents a transformation of metal into new forms reflecting local cultural and social conflicts.

Starring Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, X Japan, Orphaned Land, Tang Dynasty and Max Cavalera, and featuring the music of Kiss, Deep Purple, Sepultura, Lamb of God, In Flames and many more, Global Metal follows up from Dunn and McFadyen's prior revelatory exploration of the genre, Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, which featured at MIFF in 2006.
