“We need a million psychologists in Gaza." - Ayed

With medical bag in hand, Ayed takes on the onerous task of attending patients in the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza. His job is unremitting - he's the only field psychologist operating in an area regularly subjected to strikes from Israeli forces and internecine fighting between Hamas and Fatah.

Filmed between 2006 and 2008, when Gaza was isolated from the world, Young Freud in Gaza follows this young professional into secret rooms where tragedy knows no bounds, and his own optimism and faith in humanity are put to the test.

Young Freud in Gaza walks a line between the catastrophic and comic, while remaining consistently revelatory.

“[A] fair-minded, intimately probing documentary… There's no question that the very definition of psychotherapy means something different under occupation.” - Village Voice
