An impression of the city of San Francisco and its surroundings with visuals suggested by the description of the city by Robert Louis Stevenson. The past is evoked through documents, drawings, photographs, and a picture of the earthquake ruins brings to mind the Indian prophecy that the city would vanish even more quickly than it grew. Images of the buildings, streets, the seascape, the crowded avenues, sidewalks, the steep hills, the waterfront and the sea fogs are fused together to make up a most sensitive personal film conveying a sincere love of place.
