A film account of a visit paid by Christopher Mayhew to the Anglican Community of the Resurrection at Mirfield, Yorkshire. Mayhew set out to discover whether monasticism is relevant to the life of the twentieth century western world, or whether those who take the threefold monastic vow are really eccentrics and escapists.
Most of the film consists of the two conversations which Mayhew had with Father Hugh Bishop and one which he had with the Superior, Father Raymond Raynes. Each conversation turned upon one of the three vows. Mayhew asked searching questions about the value of freedom, the reason for chastity and the conversations ranged over many aspects of the religious life and came to rest upon the vision of God.
In a final sequence Mayhew formulates an answer to the .questions with which he went
to Mirfield.
