In September 1961, when Passenger was half finished, Andrzcj Munk was killed in a car accident. The first sequences — in which a woman passenger on a liner is shocked into recollections of Auschwitz — were never completed and are sketched in with production photo graphs and stills: the Auschwitz recollections were filmed and form the major part of this remarkable and moving film.
