It has been said that if Dublin were wiped out, it could be reconstructed from James Joyce's novel, "Ulysses", exactly as it was on Bloomsday— June 16th, 1904. Kieran Hickey has reconstructed it from a collection of 40,000 photographs of the period to make a film about Joyce's Dublin for the BBC. The author's childhood and adolescence are traced in landmarks and local characters with a background of the songs he loved and wove into all his work. Then he met Nora, who was to become his wife, and they first went out together on June 16th, 1904.
