Miguel Picazo. best known for his 1964 neo-realist classic, AUNT TULA, returns to the international limelight with his latest feature, set in a Spanish convent during the inquisition.
It is a story of two socially committed nuns caught in an atmosphere of ignorance, hunger, drought and disease, the aftermath of Spanish decadence. The convent, which holds the community together with the sustenance of religion, is threatened by closure. The two nuns, seeking to preserve their order and restore it to its former wealth, set off a tragic chain of events when one agrees to help fake a stigmata.

Outstanding performances by Carmen Maura and Mercedes Sampietro, as the two nuns, caught in the web of institutional power, and their devotion and love for one another
