In Don Shebib's first film since Between Friends, he focuses on the life and career of a successful young stockbroker. Roger, who is thirty, has just been made vice-president of his brokerage firm. He has been married for ten years to Linda, his high school sweetheart, and they have one son. His life appears highly successful, or it may be that he has simply never accepted a challenge. One day he becomes excited while watching a televised mile race. He takes up jogging and slowly becomes fascinated by the physical demands of running. A coach encourages him to take up long distance running, and he begins to neglect his job and his wife. Through his running, Roger meets a young woman, Paula, and at first he resists becoming involved with her. But his experience with running has unlocked the capacity for a deeper and more intense relationship than the one he had with Linda.

'The running sequences are done nicely, and editing throughout these scenes and the race itself is sharply and suspensefully paced.'
