For more than 75 years, the Chicago Maternity Center delivered babies at home to thousands of mothers. When plans for an expensive new women's hospital threatened the Center's future, Black, Latina and White
mothers fought vociferously, but failed to keep the Center open.

The film includes footage from a 1930 documentary about the Center, and a sequence showing the Center in action during a difficult home delivery.

Silver Hugo, Chicago.
