Sanctus

This film is compiled by Barbara Hammer from X-ray footage shot in the 1950's. The striking skeletal view we are shown allows the camera to rest on movement and gesture with-out covering the skin, seeing inside the body to the architectural frame. The movement and editing push the film further inside its subject, contemplating form and strength, touch and sensitivity, and addressing the co-fragility of human existence and film. The found footage is transformed into a celebration of the body as a physical and spiritual temple. (AW)
