A Czech look into the lives of others.

Loyalty, history and regret take centre stage for university professor Pavel Josek, lauded for standing up to the communist regime when it counted most. But as a TV documentary starts to focus in on the facts of his past, new truths are uncovered which may threaten his reputation.

The latest offering from prolific filmmaker Jan H ebejk (Divided We Fall; Beauty in Trouble, MIFF 2007) is the first of his to delve into the communist past of the Czech Republic. Taking cues from The Lives of Others, Kawasaki's Rose looks at events years after the fact, when memory is unreliable, facts are blurred and what was once seen as black and white washes out into shades of grey.
