Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo; Angel of Mine, MIFF 2019) stars in this Un Certain Regard prize-winning supernatural drama about a couple who raise a very special child.

In the beautiful but remote wilderness of Iceland, María (Rapace) and Ingvar (Hilmir Snær Guðnason, White Night Wedding, MIFF 2009) tend to their flock of sheep on their farm. One day, they make an unusual discovery and their hearts are immensely moved. But will the unexpected joy they’ve gained from their newly formed family unit last?

Taking home the Prize of Originality in Cannes’ distinguished Un Certain Regard strand, this hotly anticipated supernatural drama is the feature directorial debut of Valdimar Jóhannsson – a special-effects wiz on such titles as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Prometheus – who co-wrote Lamb with Oscar-nominated Icelandic novelist and frequent Björk collaborator Sjón. Shrouded in the magic and mystery of the Nordic island itself, with scintillating takes on folktale and the intractable will of nature, this dark debut will unsettle and linger in the mind.

“A highly original take on the anxieties of being a parent, a tale in which nature plus nurture yields a nightmare.” – Hollywood Reporter
