"Further proof of the richness and diversity of recent Moroccan cinema." - Variety

Marking filmmaker Ahmed El Maanouni's return to fictional drama - his music doco Trances (1982) was restored and presented at Cannes Classics last year - Burned Hearts touches on the conflicts at the heart of contemporary Moroccan society.

Successful architect Amin returns to Morocco for the first time in 10 years, where he confronts his physically and verbally abusive uncle on his deathbed. With the sights and sounds of the city awakening old memories, Amin is drawn back to the follies of his youth.

"The film constantly operates on a double register: that of the visible lightness of the first level of the story and that of the deep graveness which runs through the narrative in half-tone." - filmmaker Ahmed El Maanouni
