In 1942 in Tunisia, two teenage girls struggle to hold their friendship together in the face of cultural differences and emerging sexuality, amid the turmoil of World War II.
Nour, a Muslim, and Myriam, a Jew, find politics and family increasingly encroach on their freedom. Becoming resentful of each other - Myriam jealous of Nour's arranged marriage, Nour wishing she were allowed the education afforded to Myriam - the girls begin to grow apart, only then realising just how much they need each other.
Shot in a gorgeous palate of greys and blues, The Wedding Song is a compelling exploration of female sexuality and Jewish and Arab culture and religion that stylistically recalls the early films of Catherine Breillat and Claire Denis.
