Adult Fun is a British thriller about industrial espionage that develops into an altogether different kind of film. It is directed by James Scott, who uses a semi-documentary approach, relying on a high degree of improvisation. He says the film is based on the world of night cleaners, although it becomes a bizarre metaphysical mystery, rather than a mystery drama.
A young man with a violent nature is employed by a mysterious organization to get information about a firm. He is not beyond throwing his boss through an office door when lectured; he has a mistress and becomes involved with spies. He kills a private detective who was hired by his wife and mother, and is forced to escape from the police.
Finally, he is tortured to death by his espionage boss. But throughout the film the distinction between what is real and what is fiction is intentionally blurred. While many of the characters are clearly actors in set roles, there are others who appear to be 'real', or who slip out of their roles into 'reality'.
