Taking the supernatural genre in an unexpected direction, this intellectual thriller is a chilling tale about a group of people confined by bad karma, revenge and transference of sin and guilt. Moving into a crumbling apartment, Yong-Hyun, a taxi driver, soon learns that a previous tenant of his room, a writer, died in a fire, and that many of the neighbours had links with the dead man. One was his fiance and a rival novelist. The barber downstairs knows something but won't tell. As Yong-Hyun begins an affair with a convenience store worker, battered by her husband, he begins to suspect the building is haunted by more than ill will.

"It's not giving much away to say that Yoon hangs a social allegory on his cyclical-return plot, or that the film discovers more evil in the living than in the dead. But that doesn't mitigate the frissons he gets from the superb imagery, the fearless performances and the dark, dark shadows of the mind." - London Film Festival
