Armed with the same rawness of films like Kids - not to mention sharp-tongued Mexican lingo and dusty desert vistas - Y tu Mamá También is a dynamic coming-of-age road movie. Like most teen males, Tenoch and Julio (Gael García Bernal, familiar from Amores Perros) are on a crotch-first rush into adulthood. With their girlfriends away in Europe, they collect beautiful 'older woman' Luisa on the road and head for an imaginary beach paradise. Competing for her affections, unspoken jealousies throw open matters of friendship and the heart.
Presenting a simple, hot-blooded storyline with warmth and intelligence, it's not hard to see why the film has been the biggest box office smash in Mexico's history, storming box offices in the UK and US. It's also hit a universal nerve - sweeping two awards at the Venice Film Festival (including Best Screenplay).

Alfonso Cuarón (born in Mexico City, Mexico) debuted with Love in the Time of Hysteria (1991). A Little Princess (1995), his critically acclaimed American feature debut, nominated for two Academy Awards, was followed by Great Expectations (1998). Y tu Mamá También is his fourth feature.
