A languid and sensual meditation on love, Blissfully Yours is a sumptuous new offering from Thailand.

Min is an illegal Burmese immigrant, living in Thailand and in desperate need of a forged ID. His Thai girlfriend, Roong, has enlisted the help of Om, an older woman, and her husband, to provide him with shelter while suitable accommodation for the young lovers is found. Om, meanwhile, wants a child, but her husband isn't too keen on the idea, so she embarks on a torrid affair with her husband's colleague.

This haunting and beautiful film is played out against the lush greenery of Thailand's landscapes, in sweltering heat, infusing the film with a palpable erotic charge. Adding further to the escalating tensions is the unseen, but always threatening, presence of the Burmese military force. Played by a largely non-professional cast, and with some distinctive, idiosyncratic flourishes—the opening credits appear 45 minutes into the film—Blissfully Yours won the Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes last year.
