Pleasures of War

Ruth Lingford is one of England's most respected and acknowledged independent animators. This, her latest film, is also her most powerful. Devised in collaboration with the English novelist, Sara Maitland, this short is an ancient tale retold, about a city under siege and the terrible action taken by one woman to save it. This film raises many issues; is the central character a hero or maniac? does patriotism justify any action? is this a story about the sexiness of war or the savagery of sex? Whatever answers, victim becomes tyrant and the cycle of war rolls on.
