GREEN DAYS

The bloody violence of the 2009 Iranian elections explodes onscreen in this audacious film by 21-year-old Iranian filmmaker Hana Makhmalbaf.



A new wave of hope has sent the Iranian people singing, dancing and massing into the streets. Playwright Ava doesn't share in such positivity, so she interviews other young people in an attempt to rediscover her own optimism.



With the votes counted the green-clad supporters of opposition candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi claim victory, but then President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stages a coup d'état, and the frustrations and fury of the people erupt.



Mixing fictional elements and documentary footage, this raw agitprop captures the extent of the violent suppression in Tehran, as seen (in the absence of an independent Iranian media) through the mobile phones of people caught up in the street clashes.
