Between late December 1909 and June 1910, one of the great figures of Australian filmmaking W.Franklin Barrett, made several shorts, scenics and newsreels in New Zealand for the Pathe Freres Company.

This scenic is one of only three films from the trans-Tasman film trip known to have survived. It has only recently been discovered and is freshly preserved by the New Zealand Film Archive in all its glorious and lyrical Pathecolour.
